This is a list for and about the Radical Faeries, a self-defined
group of (mostly) gay men who identify with the name. There are also
bisexual men & womyn participating in this list as well. There is no
universally accepted definition of who is a faerie. Some common themes are
paganism and neopaganism, rural living (viz.
RFD magazine), and non-mainstream
approaches to spirituality, including the interweaving of sexuality and
spirituality, and alternative styles of dress and undress.
Many faeries trace their origins to a gathering, then titled "A Spiritual
Conference of Radical Faeries" held in Benson, Arizona in 1979, called by
Harry
Hay, John Burnside, Mitch Walker, and Don Kilhefner. Many of the 200 men
attending felt that they had discovered home as if for the first time.
